Sometimes, I believe, life is a great sea
An imposing  expanse, its bounds almost endless in any direction.
We are mere captains of small boats, taking a course.
Exploring, sailing toward the infinite horizon ahead.
This sea, this life, at times unforgiving, unrelenting, unfair, and worst of all; simply cruel.
This sea, this life, at times calm, peaceful, forgiving and best of all; simply loving.
We guide our ships the best we can, toward our goal.
Paths sometimes shared with others, and for brief times, as one.
Vic and I would sail together, when the times permitted
Before that word ‘busy’ crept in and life gets in the way.
A calm peaceful interval of time, a moment between friends
Sharing, in a boat, with nothing else around.
Vic and I would talk together, sometimes on a porch
Sometimes a brief meet among the homes on our street
A calm, peaceful interval of time, a moment.
To talk, to share, to confide, between just Vic and I, friends
Vic has taken a new journey, surrounded, but travelling alone.
A   passage that everyone will embark on, someday.
As for me, I carry on toward my own horizon
And remember when Vic and I shared paths, as one.
